Waste & Recycling Collections

Daventry District Council operates a 123+ waste and recycling collection service:

  • 1 weekly food waste collection
  • 2 weekly mixed recycling collection in a new blue-lidded wheelie bin
  • 3 weekly general waste black bin collection
  • + Plus an optional two-weekly garden waste service for an annual fee of £35 a year.
Three-weekly rubbish collections help encourage recycling and will reduce the money spent on treating and disposing of rubbish.  

The collection day for Barby and Onley will be WEDNESDAY.  The full collection calendar is shown opposite.  

Food Waste (Brown food caddy) can include:

  •  Meat & Fish (Raw & Cooked inc bones)
  • Fruit & Vegetables
  • All dairy products (e.g. eggs & cheese)
  • Bread, cakes & pastries
  • Rice, pasta & beans
  • Uneaten food
  • Tea bags & coffee grounds
  • Fats - solid & semi solid but not liquid
Recycling bins (Blue) can include:
  • Large cardboard
  • Newspapers, magazines, paper catalogues, junk mail
  • Clean cartons ( drinks, juice, soup, long-life milk)
  • Mixed plastics, yogurt pots, margarine tubs, fruit punnets, plastic bottles
  • Foil and foil trays (clean)
  • Food & drink cans
  • Glass bottles & jars
  • Aerosols (empty)
Waste collection (Black bin) includes
  • All waste that cannot be recycled or composted including:
  •  Polystyrene
  • Crisp packets and sweet wrappers
  • Nappies
  • Kitchen towels and tissues
  • Cat litter
Garden Waste (Brown bin) includes
(at an optional cost of £35/year)
  • Grass cuttings & weeds
  • Cut flowers & plants
  • Leaves & bark
  • Prunings & hedge trimmings
  • Twigs & small branches
  • Straw & sawdust (from domestic pets)
  • Wind fallen fruit
